A baby is born but so is a parent

Hi, I’m Lisa

A person wearing traditional African attire, including a red dress with intricate green, yellow, and white patterns, standing in front of a yellow wall with woven baskets.

I’m a mother, a postnatal doula, and someone who genuinely loves babies. Before this, I spent over 25 years as a medical secretary in the NHS, so I understand how healthcare works and how overwhelming it can feel for new families.

I love to help others and do this wholeheartedly, as part of my Christian living.

I also live with vitiligo, which is part of my story and my identity. I believe we can all learn from being comfortable in our own skin and embracing what makes us different.

My Caribbean/British heritage has shaped how I think about family and community. I grew up appreciating the importance of looking after one another, sharing what we have, and being there when someone needs a helping hand.

I want every family I support to feel they have someone in their corner. Someone who cares. Someone who listens. Someone who can say, “You’ve got this, and I am here when you need help.”

My Vision

To help create a culture where postnatal care recognises the whole family — not just the baby

I want new parents to feel supported, respected and cared for as they recover from birth and adjust to their new role.

HELD AFTER BIRTH aims to become a trusted source of warm, practical and culturally respectful postnatal support for families in our local community and beyond.

My Caribbean heritage is an important part of who I am, while HELD AFTER BIRTH welcome all families. I want a world where new parents don't feel they have to struggle through the early days of parenthood alone.

I'm here while you find your feet as a new parent

You will not be judged. You will be supported. Because you need holding too.

HELD AFTER BIRTH provides a caring, practical and reassuring presence during the transition into parenthood — supporting you while you learn, recover and find your own rhythm with your baby.

A woman with dark skin and earrings holds a small child in her arms outdoors, both smiling with trees and blue sky in the background.

What does it mean to be HELD?

H — Heard Your feelings matter.

E — Encouraged You don't have to have everything figured out.

L — Listened to Your needs and choices are respected.

D — Supported You don't have to do everything alone.

I am here to make sure new parents feel cared for, supported and less alone during the transition into life with their new baby.

At HELD AFTER BIRTH, my mission is to provide compassionate, practical and non-judgemental postnatal support to new parents and their babies in the comfort of their own homes.

I am are here to support parents as they recover, adjust and find their confidence during the early days and weeks of parenthood.

Through a caring presence, practical help, emotional reassurance and a listening ear, I aim to make the transition into parenthood feel a little less overwhelming and a lot more supported.

Because while a new baby needs nurturing, the person caring for that baby needs nurturing too. You need care too. You deserve to be Held.

Sometimes an extra pair of hands is exactly what you need.

I'm here while you find your feet as a new parent.
